Nirvana: Amazing Milestone

Nirvana's album Nevermind has now spent over 700 weeks (non-consecutive) on the Billboard 200 Chart. That translates into 13 years as one of the top 200 most popular albums in the United States.

Nevermind was the band's second album. It was released in September of 1991, and has sold over 30 million copies, featuring the hits "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Lithium", "Come as You Are", and "In Bloom". Nevermind bumped Michael Jackson's album Dangerous out of the number one position on the Billboard 200 Chart during the week of January 11th, 1992.

According to the internets, some of the other long-timers club include:

  • The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (apparently the highest charting at 990 weeks)

  • Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers (851 weeks)

  • Greatest Hits by Journey (821 weeks)

  • Metallica by Metallica (758 weeks)

  • Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits by Creedence Clearwater Revival (710 weeks)

  • Curtain Call: The Hits by Eminem (700 weeks)

Big kudos to living members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear. RIP Kurt Cobain.
